Veteran Sister’s Battle Buddy Program

What is a Battle Buddy?

A Battle Buddy has your back.  The Veteran’s Sisters Battle Buddy Program is a Peer to Peer support system that connects female Veteran’s together, creating a support network to help each other through the unique challenges female Veterans face after MST:

  • Navigating the VA Claims Process.
  • Help is everything from assistance filing a claim or having a Battle Buddy with you at your Compensation and Benefits Medical Examinations and hearings.
  •  Attending medical appointments in primarily male-focused VA Health Care Facilities

A Battle Buddy is a companion and an advocate in stressful situations like medical appointments and court hearings or when reporting sexual assault or rape.

How does the Battle Buddy Program work?

We’re a peer to peer group and as female Veteran’s with PTSD and MST we have literally walked in your shoes.  You may need a Battle Buddy for a while before you are in a place where you can be someone else’s Battle Buddy.  -And that is totally normal.

Everyone in the program was screened for  proof of military service at the time they became a member.

As a member, you have access to the Request a Battle Buddy feature on our website where you can get help for regularly scheduled appointments and social events.

*For assistance reporting a sexual assault or rape, members should use the request a Victim Advocate link for immediate assistance.

Why join the Battle Buddy program?

Female Veterans make up less than 9 percent of the total Veteran population and less than 2 percent of the total adult female population.  It is estimated 1 out of every 5 female Veterans have experienced military sexual trauma and 9 out of every 10 suffers from PTSD. Female Veterans are 2 1/2 times more likely than non-veterans to commit suicide.

With such a high ratio of PTSD and MST survivors among the small percentage of female Veterans, many are too intimated to start the process or become triggered and become unable to advocate for themselves and are unable to get the help and support they need.
